Memphis Grizzlies 2017-18 Biggest Questions: Who will step up to be the third scoring option?
By Chris Kern
We’re continuing to ask the biggest questions of the 2017-18 season for the Memphis Grizzlies. Who will be the third scoring option on this team?
Mike Conley and Marc Gasol will have huge roles offensively, but who can step up and contribute alongside those two. There’s a few guys with the possibility to do so. JaMychal Green and Chandler Parsons are two of the prime candidates. Maybe it could be Ben McLemore when he returns. Could it possibly even be rookie Dillon Brooks?
JaMychal Green will stretch the floor for sure, but can he do more? He’s a skilled big who could develop into a key part of the offense. He should be able to improve as a post scorer this season, and with some other guys on the wing, contributing Green could get a lot of good looks.
Chandler Parsons might be the favorite to become the third option on his team. It all depends on if he can stay healthy though. He has the skills to be a legit scoring option on this team. If Parsons stays healthy, he could possibility earn a starting job. However, even when he’s with the second unit, he’ll get plenty of touches no matter what his role he’s in.
Ben McLemore could have a nice role offensively when he returns. That would mean he isn’t out a long time though — if he’s be able to develop into a scoring role. He’s a solid shooter and can attack the basket. He’ll compliment Conley nicely in the backcourt, if he’s able to secure a starting spot when he returns.
Maybe rookie Dillon Brooks can become a key scoring option for this team. He has already showed that he can score the ball very well. He’s a good shooter and also can finish at the rim. In addition, he can create his own shot. He’ll start off the bench and will likely stay there all season, but look for Brooks to score the ball for this Grizzlies team.
