Tony Allen and Zach Randolph are always going to be legends in Memphis, but this is a young man’s game and their time has past. The Grizzlies were able to free up money to acquire younger players who fit Coach Fizdale’s desire to play with more athletics, faster players. The team is now on board with the new direction.

I would have preferred a better replacement to Tony Allen than Ben McLemore. However, McLemore is a former lottery pick and is far more athletic and a much better shooter than Allen. Most importantly, his skills are required in the team’s new style. Likewise, Parsons and Martin are far better at spreading the defense and running the court than Randolph. These moves were needed to properly execute Fizdale’s game plan.
Fans need to remember that the Grizzlies only won 42 and 43 games the last two seasons. This team may not even reach that level if health becomes an issue again, but on paper, the Grizzlies are stronger. In addition, they can operate in the coach’s desired style much easier without Allen and Randolph. — Chip Crain (@chipc3)
