After going down by over 20, the Memphis Grizzlies nearly completed a fourth-quarter rally against the Lakers. However, it just wasn’t enough.

After an impressive win against the Clippers, the Memphis Grizzlies couldn’t beat the lesser Los Angeles team.

Is that a shock at all?

The Grizzlies continued their horrid trend of waking up to beat the league’s elite then sleep past the bottom-feeders. It’s honestly the most confusing thing in the world.

Behind the stellar play from Brandon Ingram and Brook Lopez, the Los Angeles Lakers came away with a win against the Grizzlies, moving to a .500 record. Meanwhile, the Grizzlies are now two games above .500 with a 6-4 record.

What were some of the takeaways from this game? What stood out?

Quick Hits

Mike Conley is starting to look like himself. After a 22-point outing against the Clippers, Conley followed it up by scoring 23 points on 9-17 shooting. This is an encouraging sign going forward as his shooting numbers are off compared to last season.

Conley needs to generate more assists. Maybe, it’s because there aren’t many weapons around him at the moment. However, as a point guard, you should be averaging more than four assists a game.

Andrew Harrison hasn’t done enough to validate cutting Wade Baldwin — the team’s most recent first-round pick. Both players haven’t displayed much NBA talent, but the Grizzlies aren’t good with Harrison on the floor. In just nine minutes tonight, Harrison had a plus/minus of -11 — which came in the Lakers’ huge third-quarter run. Wayne Selden and Ben McLemore’s returns will be much appreciated.

Dillon Brooks is filling in the starting lineup admirably. After an off game on Saturday, Brooks rallied and was a huge contributor. He finished with 13 points on 4-6 shooting and three rebounds. Not to mention, he was the team’s best in terms of plus/minus (+19).

The Lakers’ third-quarter run was a glimpse of how good their offense could be. While Lonzo Ball’s play has been lackluster to start the season, he simply turned the offense into a

machine.

Players were finding clear lanes to the basket and wide-open looks from deep. It was a Warriors-esque run to say the least.

More from Grizzlies News

If the Memphis Grizzlies continue the trend of playing down to lottery teams, they will become one. The West is too good this year for that nonsense.

The Memphis Grizzlies are 0-2 without Chandler Parsons.

Tyreke Evans has looked like the Grizzlies’ best player. They received him for scraps this summer, and it looks like the best bargain deal of the offseason. He’s simply kept Memphis in games with his excellence off the bench. His stellar play continued as he notched 26 points in 32 minutes. If it weren’t for him, the Grizzlies wouldn’t be a .500 team right now.

What’s next?

The Memphis Grizzlies will look to bounce back on Tuesday as they take on the Trail Blazers in Portland. The Blazers are coming off a hot win against the Thunder and will look to carry the momentum over against a playoff challenger.
