The Memphis Grizzlies released the injury updates on Wayne Selden, Brandan Wright and Mike Conley. Good news, Wright has resumed on-court activities and should return this week. OK news, there are two more weeks until Selden’s return. Bad news, there are two more weeks until we receive another update on Conley’s injury:
"Conley continues to participate in therapy and treatment to alleviate soreness in his left heel, as he progresses towards returning to on-court activities. A further update will be provided in approximately two weeks."
This injury update isn’t pretty for the Memphis Grizzlies. Without Conley, they’re a terrible 2-16, plummeting down the Western Conference standings. They’ve gone from a playoff team that could attain home-court advantage to a bottom-five team.
The next two weeks won’t be any easier either.
Over this span, the Grizzlies will play in eight games — seven of which on the road in two brutal Western Conference trips. They’ll have a back-to-back road stint against Golden State and Phoenix before they come home to take on the Clippers. Then, they’ll go on a five-game road trip against Phoenix, the Lakers, Golden State, Sacramento and the Clippers.
That’s just until another update.
No one knows when Conley will return, and over the next two weeks, you might see this team continue to spiral.
If the Grizzlies can’t survive the road trip, they could be on the edge of falling 20 games below .500, and what happens after that? The records don’t suggest this, but a hole that deep is hard to climb out of in the ultra-competitive Western Conference.
