The Memphis Grizzlies made a silly mistake trading away sharpshooter Troy Daniels. Last night, he made them pay as he buried the team away with a clutch 3.
This recap is entirely dedicated to Troy Daniels’ revenge game against the Memphis Grizzlies. I’m not going to be applauding an opposing player. No, I’m pointing out that trading him should be added to the list of countless horrible mistakes this front offseason has made the past several seasons.
For the first time in years, the Grizzlies had a perimeter player who was a straight gunner from deep. Not to mention, he actually hit his 3’s. He wasn’t able to do much else, but WOW could he shoot the basketball. When he got hot, he was HOOOOOT. Like hotter than a summer afternoon at AutoZone Park. When he was on, the crowd was absolutely electric. He turned a December game against the lowly Lakers into a playoff-atmosphere contest by drilling 3 after 3. In a blowout game against OKC, he transformed garbage time into his personal 3-point shootout — gunning six 3’s in a row.
Daniels had that gold microwave, gold deep-range deadeye, gold catch-and-shoot and gold limitless range from deep.
Yet, the Grizzlies traded him away. They gave away a player they’ve been craving for years essentially for Ben McLemore, cookie crumbs and a banana peel.
What were the consequences of such a bonehead move?
Daniels did it on ’em
Well, the Memphis Grizzlies played the Phoenix Suns last night, and Troy Daniels had a chance to get revenge.
He drilled his first two 3-pointers of the game. Usually, he only gets his buckets off outside shots. Instead, he knocked down all five of his free throw attempts.
Then, as the Grizzlies were up by two in this tankfest, Troy Daniels had the last word as he drained the game-clinching 3 with 17 seconds to go in the game.
Troy Daniels seals the @suns victory with this 3!

Ultimately, the Grizzlies couldn’t capitalize on their two offensive possessions as the Suns ran away with the 97-95 win.
Troy Daniels made the Grizzlies pay, and as the team is in the midst of turmoil, the front office should look foolish for this decision.
