Memphis Grizzlies drop a heart-breaker in Phoenix
The Memphis Grizzlies dropped their 10th straight road game to the Phoenix Suns in Phoenix on Tuesday night.
First Quarter:
The game began with the two stars of the game scoring the first two points of the game. Marc Gasol and Devin Booker were huge for their respective teams to start. The Memphis Grizzlies were trailing the Phoenix Suns by two at the first timeout of the game — came at 5:34 into the first quarter.
The Grizzlies fell victim to horrible defensive communication, and the Suns scored seven points in one minute and 31 seconds. The Grizzlies trailed 19-10 with 5:05 remaining in the first quarter. After trailing by as much as 11, the Grizzlies trimmed it to nine. They were down 29-21 after one quarter of play.
Second Quarter:
Similar to the first quarter, the timeout came almost five minutes in, and the Grizzlies still trailed — this time by seven. The second quarter began with a debate about the score after the first quarter. I’ll save you the confusion by just telling you that the Grizzlies got their two points. 37-30, and it felt like the Grizzlies were a few defensive stops away from getting back into this game. The Grizzlies then would play back and forth with the Suns for the next six minutes to get the lead down to five, trailing the Suns 57-53 at the half.
Third Quarter:
The Memphis Grizzlies entered the third quarter with some fire from the supporting cast. Brooks, Harrison, and Wright entered the half and went on a 8-4 run to tie the game. The third quarter was full of defense leading to offense. The Grizzlies got out and ran in the third and featured this pretty Kobi Simmons euro.
The Grizzlies finished the third quarter tied with the Phoenix at 76.
Fourth Quarter:
The Memphis Grizzlies opened the final quarter as bad as you could’ve imagined it. Memphis started getting sluggish in their offensive sets. Ball became stagnant, and then guys started playing conservative verses playing free. The Grizzlies then trailed by as much as nine after being tied at the start of the fourth.
Then, the Grizzlies sized down to match up with the Suns, which spurred a Grizzlies run to cut the Suns lead to just four late in the fourth. The Grizzlies defense returned to form in the final five minutes of the forth quarter. The Grizzlies trailed by four, and then the defense forced the ball down the throats of the Suns for a fierce James Ennis and-one.
That trimmed the lead to one. The Grizzlies then tied the game with a ferrous Jarell Martin put-back slam with .6 left on the clock. The Grizzlies then found another way to lose a close game.

It doesn’t get more heart-breaking than this for the Memphis Grizzlies. The worst thing about all of this is, they’re the reason for all of these late-game losses.
