The All-Star game is a month away and with two players that are somewhat deserving on the roster, let’s take a look at Tyreke Evans’ and Marc Gasol’s chances to make the team.

This has been a tough season for the Memphis Grizzlies, who are currently 12-27. Even with their bad record, Evans and Gasol do deserve All-Star consideration. The early returns on All-Star voting didn’t feature either player. Their opportunity will come from the coach picking the reserves. It appears that Steve Kerr will likely be the All-Star coach, which falls to the coach of the team with the best record.

Even though the Memphis Grizzlies have a losing record, should Marc Gasol or Tyreke Evans make the All-Star team?

The case for both players

Tyreke Evans is having the most prolific season of his career. Evans is putting up career highs in terms of scoring efficiency. He was signed for three million dollars this offseason and has become, in many ways, the best free agent signing of the season. He was signed to be a bench player for the Grizzlies, but injuries turned into a starter as he’s doing a great deal of work as a primary ball-handler. If he’s ever going to make an All-Star game, this would be the season.

Marc Gasol has continued to produce points and is just as aggressive as last season. He’s such a huge part of the Grizzlies’ offense, and he’s among the league leaders in touches. Watching Memphis play, they rely on Marc Gasol as a table setter. They use him in a variety of ways to open things up for other players.

The Verdict

Unfortunately for both players, All-Star players tend to be from winning teams. The Western Conference is also stacked. There are other players that are just as deserving.

It’s hard to see Tyreke Evans or Marc Gasol make the All-Star team. Although, it would be great to see Evans make it and put a great accolade on what has been an impressive season. The good news is that we no longer have to be upset that Mike Conley was once again snubbed.
