Slovenia. Luka Doncic. 6. player. 79. The Mavericks are in a perfect position in this draft as anyone in the top six — aside from Trae Young — fit their needs perfectly. Dallas is at its best when Harrison Barnes plays some of the 4 position, so finding an interchangeable forward next to him could be a nice move going forward. Bamba or Ayton would be an upgrade as center, as Nerlens Noel wasn’t what everyone shaped him out to be. Luka Doncic would be a perfect backcourt mate next to Dennis Smith Jr.

Doncic is a perimeter player who has flourished as a “point wing” in the best professional basketball league aside from the NBA. He has excellent court vision and size on the perimeter. In addition, he has a smooth touch from outside — a key component in Rick Carlisle’s offenses for years.

Whether or not his speed translates to the NBA is up for debate, but he has a higher floor than most prospects in the top 10. At most, he could become another Manu or Gordon Hayward. At worst, he’s probably Mike Miller — which isn’t bad by any means.
