The short-handed Memphis Grizzlies win back-to-back games for the first time in three months in a win against the New York Knicks.
The Memphis Grizzlies entered Wednesday night’s home game looking to do something that they had not done in months, win back-to-back games. The season has been rough, and winning consistently has been a huge stress for Head Coach J.B. Bickerstaff. He got his wish on Wednesday night as the short-handed Grizzlies beat up the Knicks 105-99 in Memphis.
Player Grades – Starters:
Tyreke Evans (A+): Evans, coming off of a near triple double on Monday night, continued moving the ball Wednesday night as well. The Grizzlies were going to need Evans to have a big night, and he did, but his passing has become a secret weapon. Similar to this pass to Ivan Rabb, Evans is learning how to find guys while driving the lane as well.
Evans’ shot selection is coming together beautifully. Evans had a complete game tonight, scoring 23 points, 10 assists, and another double-double.
JaMychal Green (A-): Green had a very solid night being the second-leading scorer. Similar to Evans, Green picked his spots well throughout tonight’s game. He had a huge slam towards the end of the game to help seal the victory for the Grizzlies.
JaMychal finished with 18 points 13 rebounds and three assists.
Dillon Brooks (B+): Brooks started really well, and continued playing well throughout the game on both ends. The last two games, Brooks has played smart basketball and has made shots, and passes like this one.
Brooks finished with 17 points, five rebounds and one assist.
Deyonta Davis (C+): Davis had a good night filling in for the absence of Marc Gasol (illness). It seemed like Deyonta scored all of his points on alley-oops including this one from Wayne Selden.
Davis finished with eight points and four rebounds in his first NBA start.
Andrew Harrison (C): I gave Harrison a ‘C,’ because he had an overall quiet night. He managed the game when he was in, but his left shoulder continues to bug him. One thing Harrison has been consistent at is working his way to the free throw line and managing a game like a point guard should. Harrison finished with three points, two rebounds, and one assist.
Player Grades – Bench
Jarell Martin (B+): Martin had a very impressive night that was needed because of the lack of scoring due to players out. Martin stepped in and made huge plays when needed. He even put Kristaps Porzingis on skates, and then showed him the floor in the video below.
Martin is exactly what this team needed to keep Porzingis as quiet as possible. Along with his defense, Martin scored 17 points, six rebounds and one assist.
Ivan Rabb (B+): Rabb made his fifth appearance of the season tonight, showing why he should get more minutes. His first bucket was a left hook and-one. Then, Rabb continued to play well. I would much rather Rabb have the minutes over Davis. Nothing personal about Davis, but Rabb just has a better knowledge for the game and is more skilled. Take away a few hesitations tonight, and Rabb played a good floor game tonight.
James Ennis (C+): Ennis did his usual job while coming off the bench tonight. He stayed in motion on the offensive end, and played sound defense on the Knicks wing players. Ennis finished with four points, three rebounds and three assists.

Mario Chalmers (D+): Chalmers gets a lot of flack for how he plays (deservedly so), but the fact of the matter is, he asks for it. His decision-making with the ball is questionable at best. I gave Chalmers the lowest grade tonight, because it just doesn’t seem like he’s in the game at points. He’s famously become the leader of the tank for most people. Mario finished with four points, three rebounds and three assists.
Wayne Selden Jr. (C): I’m not looking to hard into Selden’s play quite yet. Selden, returning from a quad injury, is still trying to find his way into these rotations. He catches the ball at times that I don’t think he wants the shot, or doesn’t feel comfortable. His defense hasn’t left however, and that remains his number one weapon on the floor. Selden finished with three points and one assist against the Knicks.
