Memphis Grizzlies: Ranking possible landing spots for Tyreke Evans
No. 5: Cleveland
Cleveland is a landing spot here, because it’ll be associated with Tyreke Evans at some point. It’s a given; they’re linked with everyone for trade rumors.
While I firmly believe they don’t need help on the perimeter (I mean … LeBron, IT, Wade, JR Smith, Korver, Shump, D-Rose … c’mon…), Evans would simply bolster their bench.
He fits with the LeBron system as an outside shooter, but he could also give him breaks as a primary playmaker – in short spurts. Off the bench, he and Rose would make for a dynamic backcourt that most second-units can’t contend with. If Wade or Smith aren’t cutting at the starting 2-guard spot, Evans would be a good fit next to LeBron, Love and IT. You could slot him at either wing position, giving the Cavaliers even more small-ball combinations.
Not only is Cleveland a good landing spot for Tyreke Evans, it’s also a prime trade partner for the Grizzlies. They possess two first-round picks this year – their own and Brooklyn’s pick. In addition, acquiring someone like Tristan Thompson and Iman Shumpert would be good for the Grizzlies bench.
The Cavaliers will certainly have their eyes set on bigger names (i.e. DeAndre Jordan). However, if they have a chance to acquire Tyreke Evans, don’t’t think they won’t try to get him.
Ideal return: Evans and Brandan Wright for Iman Shumpert and Cleveland’s 2018 first-round pick.
