Memphis Grizzlies: Ranking possible landing spots for Tyreke Evans
No. 1: Philadelphia
If there’s any playoff team that needs more playmaking and shooting, it’s the Philadelphia 76ers.
They need another player who can create his own shot and distribute the ball. They do have that player … but his powers are gone.
In their starting lineup, they have plenty of shooting in JJ Redick, Robert Covington, Dario Saric and occasionally Joel Embiid. Off the bench though, they don’t possess much shooting. Jerryd Bayless (37 percent) and Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot (34.7) are decent 3-point shooters. TJ McConnell shoots 43.6 percent from deep, but only launches one triple a game.
From a playmaking standpoint, their only perimeter playmakers are Ben Simmons and TJ McConnell. In order to make some noise in the playoffs, they need more dynamic weapons. They can’t expect to do much with a point guard who can’t – or won’t – shoot from deep, and a big man that may or may not stay healthy for the playoffs.
The Sixers also don’t have a single player off the bench who averages more than 8.5 points a game. Jerryd Bayless is averaging the most points of any bench player at 8.3 PPG. They could benefit immensely from 12-15 points a game from Evans.
This season could be the year the Process starts to pay off, as they can snap a five-year playoff drought. Adding Evans would only solidify a playoff spot.
Ideal return: Dario Saric … but really, Richaun Holmes and a few second-round picks.
