The Memphis Grizzlies should have traded Tyreke Evans yesterday
Tyreke Evans must be moved before the NBA trade deadline. However, that needs to happen sooner rather than later.
Two nights ago, Tyreke Evans played a great game for the Memphis Grizzlies. The Phoenix Suns were unable to slow him down as he dropped 27 points on 11-17 shooting. All in all, it was a very nice win for the Grizzlies.
It’s truly a shame that “nice wins” aren’t very nice anymore.
I’m just going to be blunt: Tyreke Evans is hurting the Memphis Grizzlies right now. Though he has played at an All-Star level this year, the Grizzlies are not trying to win games.
There has been much confusion over what the Grizzlies’ plan has been this year. Many of the decisions that the team has made would lead one to believe that they’re trying to tank, yet there has still been lip service that they are trying to make the playoffs.
However, with the news that Mike Conley is out for the year, the time for speculation is over. The Memphis Grizzlies are indeed trying to get as high a draft pick as they can get.
So why is Tyreke Evans still in a Memphis Grizzlies uniform?
It’s not like the opportunities are not there. The Boston Celtics desperately need some wing scoring and playmaking to take some pressure off of Kyrie Irving. Also, with the news that John Wall will miss 6-to-8 weeks, the Wizards need someone to fill his absence. Cleveland Cavaliers GM LeBron James would also greatly appreciate his presence.
It’s important to make it clear that the Memphis Grizzlies winning games is not inherently a bad thing. Yes, it would be wise for the Grizzlies to lose as many games as possible. However, if the young guys are competing and winning games, who can be upset about that?

Tyreke Evans, on the other hand, is not a young player with a ton of upside. He likely has no future with the Memphis Grizzlies considering that they don’t have his bird rights and can’t give him a huge contract. He also takes away minutes from the team’s younger guards.
Tyreke Evans winning games for the Grizzlies makes no sense, from either a developmental perspective as well as a future one.
He will always have a home in Memphis. After all, once a Memphis Tiger, always a Memphis Tiger, and once a Memphis Grizzly, always a Memphis Grizzly.
Unfortunately, it was time for him to go to somewhere else yesterday.
