The Memphis Grizzlies lost to the Atlanta Hawks 108-82 in the mother of all dumpster fires.

Burn the tapes.

Let me be clear: There is not a single nice thing that can be said about the Memphis Grizzlies performance in Atlanta.

Now, I want the records to show that I deserve a lot of praise for this article. Do you know how hard it was to put myself through this game? When the Grizzlies turned the ball over for the 21st time near the end of the third quarter, I think my eyes started bleeding.

If there is a bright side, there’s absolutely no way that the Memphis Grizzlies can ever play this badly again.

1st Half

The Grizzlies did not start off the game well, but then again, they never do. Though they started off solid defensively, they would still trail 22-15 at the end of the first quarter. Marc Gasol led the team with six points.

The second quarter was when the game truly began to go off of the rails. With terrible turnovers and poor shooting, the Grizzlies soon found themselves down by as much as 19 before the end of the half.

The Grizzlies would trail at halftime 35 (yes, they scored 35 points in a half against the Atlanta Hawks) to 51.

2nd Half

If you care anything at all about the game of basketball, then you would have wanted to tear your eyes out. Terrible effort? Check. Poor decision making? Check. Making Nathan Chester long for death in the middle of a basketball game? Check.

Here are some stats for your viewing displeasure. At the end of the third quarter, the Atlanta Hawks had 32 points off of 21 Grizzly turnovers. Those 21 turnovers tied the Grizzlies’ season high…with a quarter left in the game.

The 4th quarter was a mere formality in which the Grizzlies trailed by as much as 33 at one point.

Takeaways

There’s nothing positive that anyone can say about this kind of performance. Like a raging hurricane, the Grizzlies never stopped being terrible. Not only did they play terrible against an awful opponent, but they also looked like they didn’t even want to be there.

Even though games like this happen in the NBA, this game is concerning on multiple levels. If the Grizzlies cannot compete better than this against a terrible team, it brings the coaching staff into question. It also raises questions about who will still be in a Grizzlies uniform next season.

Regardless, it’s time to forget about this one. It would be wise to go watch some Trae Young highlights.
