The Memphis Grizzlies have agreed to buy out Brandan Wright’s contract, ending a failed experiment that began nearly three years ago.
Brandan Wright never seemed to truly fit with the Memphis Grizzlies.
Chris Wallace signed a player that never succeeded in Memphis? This is my shocked face.
Of course, his signing back in the 2015 offseason was a real steal at the time. Even though the Grizzlies had been great for years, they badly needed some length and athleticism. Regardless of what you think of Brandon Wright, he definitely has both of those things.
However, one setback after another revealed that Brandon thriving in the Beale Street Blue just wasn’t meant to be.
Wright missed most of his first season with a variety of injuries (then again, most of the team did). Then, the arrival of Deyonta Davis overshadowed him last year as he continued to deal with injuries. And this year, it was pretty obvious that he didn’t want to be here anymore.
Now, Brandon Wright will finally be getting his wish. The Houston Rockets will sign him once his buyout with the Memphis Grizzlies is complete.

It truly is a shame that Brandon’s time in Memphis did not go differently. Even as the team began to go through transition, he would have been perfect to help lead the Grizzlies into a faster era of basketball. Unfortunately, injuries and the rise of other talent prevented him from becoming the player that he could have been from Memphis.
However, he could very well revitalize his career in Houston. As long as he able to run and catch lobs from Chris Paul and James Harden, he will be very effective in Houston’s offense.
Goodbye, Brandon Wright. Even after nearly three years, we hardly knew you.
