Memphis Grizzlies: 2018 NBA Draft Big Board 1.0
No. 1: Marvin Bagley
Marvin Bagley is the most sure-fire prospect in the draft. His ceiling isn’t the highest out of everyone in the top-six. However, even if he only reaches his floor, you still get a good starting power forward.
He has an absolute nose for the basketball on both the offensive and defensive glass, averaging 11.4 rebounds (four offensive rebounds). At 6’11” and 234 pounds, he can battle down low with any type of big man in the NBA.
Offensively, Bagley seems like a garbage man, but he can do so much more. He has an adequate mid-range jumper. He can put the ball on the floor. In addition, his 3-point jumper is respectable.
Defensively, Bagley isn’t nearly as prolific as the other big men in the elite part of the draft boards. He averages over a steal and a block a game, and he has the versatility to switch off the pick-and-roll.
His advancements as a 3-pointer and a shot-blocker will determine whether or not he can reach stardom. Any progress in those two areas could make him another Kevin Garnett or Chris Bosh.
Even then, Bagley is better than any of the Grizzlies’ power forwards right now. He’s one of the few players in this draft who could be the Grizzlies’ first Rookie of the Year since Pau Gasol.
He’s a near-perfect fit next to Conley, Gasol and Parsons. His rebounding and scoring abilities at the 4 would remind fans of Zach Randolph – only younger and more athletic.
