No. 10: Kevin Knox

If the Memphis Grizzlies fall out of the top-six of the lottery, don’t be surprised if Kevin Knox’s name is thrown around.

The Grizzlies have needed a scorer off the wing for years now. Failed Jeff Green and Chandler Parsons experiments have made perimeter scoring a glaring weakness for the Grizzlies since they traded away Rudy Gay.

With Knox, you don’t know how good he can be. Right now, he’s Kentucky’s best player. In normal Kentucky years, is this the case?

He has the tools to become a solid NBA player. He’s a capable three-point shooter and can score in the mid-range. In addition, he has the physical tools to become a multi-positional player on both ends of the court.

However, he isn’t nearly the perimeter scorer Devin Booker and Jamal Murray were – two of the better Kentucky perimeter players in Calipari’s era.

Knox’s strengths allow him to become successful at the next level, but he won’t be an immediate prospect. He’s still young, as he recently turned 18 years old. In addition, he has to get bigger to compete with NBA 3’s.

If the Grizzlies wanted to hit the reset button next season and fell to the nineth pick, Knox would be a good find here. He fills a need that’s been glaring for years.

However, that’s not the case. Unless he’s the absolute best player on the board, the Grizzlies should pass on him, as he may not be an immediate-impact prospect.
