Memphis Grizzlies: 2018 NBA Draft Big Board 1.0
No. 9: Collin Sexton
Collin Sexton is an intriguing prospect. He has the game to crash the top-five party, as he’s a big, physical guard with Westbrook-like aggression. His game reminds you of a several elite guards. His physical tools make you think of John Wall. His mentality reminds you of Damian Lillard, and his game is similar to Eric Bledsoe.
The Grizzlies could have a chance to right the wrong of Wade Baldwin – who’s physically similar to Sexton.
With Conley’s injury, drafting a point guard is becoming a real necessity for the Grizzlies over the next few drafts. In this draft, it’s basically Young or Sexton, though the former is in a separate tier.
Sexton has the ability to attack the basket and get to the line, but he’s shown a promising three-point jumper as well (34.1 percent). Though his scoring has been solid (18.3 points), he needs to show more as a playmaker, as he’s only averaging 3.5 assists.
At the minimum, Sexton is an upgrade at the backup point guard position next season. In addition, he can also play alongside Conley as a two-guard. If he can acquire a consistent 3-point shot and better playmaking abilities, Sexton could be a dangerous guard in the NBA for years to come.
