Memphis Grizzlies: 2018 NBA Draft Big Board 1.0
No. 6: Jaren Jackson Jr.
Jaren Jackson Jr. was once considered the nicest consolation prize for falling out of the top six. Now, he has crashed the party and is rising up the draft boards. His two-way potential is tantalizing, as he can become an elite player in this league.
On defense, he’s one of the nation’s prolific shot-blockers, averaging 3.3 blocks per game (5.9!!! per 40 minutes). His shot-blocking alone makes him a great defender. However, his ability to switch on anyone makes him special on that end of the court. Even if the offense doesn’t translate, he can carve his niche as an elite defender in this league.

Offensively, he has that “unicorn” potential. As a 6’11” big man, he can stretch the defense as a shooter. He’s knocking down a tremendous 44.3 percent from deep on 2.9 attempts per game. On the perimeter, he can put the ball on the floor and create opportunities for himself and others. With his athleticism, vertical and size, he can crash the glass and finish over anyone.
On this Grizzlies’ team, he could be a starter at the 4. He could form a solid frontcourt tandem with Gasol. In addition, he can change the pace of the game at the 5.
If the Grizzlies nab Jackson, they’d find a gem and a potential game-changer at the next level.
