Around this time last year, Dillon Brooks led Oregon through the NCAA tournament. Now, he is one of the few bright spots in a terrible season for the Memphis Grizzlies.

A/N: This was very difficult to write since I had to say a few nice things about Chris Wallace. If that offends you, I understand.

First, let’s be clear about one thing: An NBA team should have picked Dillon Brooks in the first round. If he was a 19-year-old who had been PAC 12 Player of the Year and had led his team to the Final Four, he would have likely been a lottery pick.

However, since he was a four-year college player, Brooks found himself in the bottom half of the second round. I guess you could say that Chris Wallace made a very…*grunts*… good selectio-

You know what, I can’t do it. Dillon Brooks being a member of the Memphis Grizzlies is a great thing. Since Chris Wallace picking a good player in the second round doesn’t fit the narrative, I’ll conveniently leave that fact out.

All joking aside, there’s no telling what Brooks will eventually be. His current state right now may very well be his final form; he may never get much better than what he is now. On the other hand, he could become an excellent two-way shooting guard for the next decade.

Even as gets invited to participate in flashy competitions during All-Star weekend, the suspense of what Dillon Brooks can become may be the most exciting thing about him.

But for now, fans of the Memphis Grizzlies will just have to like him for what he currently is–a good rookie who may eventually grow into something more. And for a team that has had very few exciting prospects over the years, that is more than enough.
