The Memphis Grizzlies are in desperate need of fresh talent. What upcoming rookie will best fit their system?

You want to know which rookie best fits the system for the Memphis Grizzlies next year. Well I’ve got one thing to say in response to that.

Who cares?

Good NBA teams should definitely draft based on team needs and not necessarily just talent. However, it’s not really a secret at this point that the Grizzlies are not a good basketball team. When picking in the 2018 draft, the Grizzlies need to select the best player available and not worry about how they fit with the team. Because the team isn’t good.

You can make the argument that mustard is a better fit than mayo on a crap sandwich, but at the end of the day, it’s still a crap sandwich. Instead, you should be trying to create a new sandwich entirely, one that doesn’t taste crappy like the old sandwich.

Make sense?

If you really want to get up in arms over fit, Marvin Bagley would probably be the best fit for the Memphis Grizzlies. He could slide right next to Marc Gasol, and they could instantly be one of the better front courts in the Western Conference. Unfortunately, that team is probably still not making the playoffs.

On the other hand, if Marvin Bagley is not the best player available, then they shouldn’t draft him, period.

The key for the franchise going forward is to be more future-oriented. For a long time, the Grizzlies have worried more about the present than they have the future. Now, their lack of foresight has come back to bite them. If the Grizzlies want to become successful once again, they must prioritize the future over short-term gain.

Essentially, Memphis must worry more about five years from now rather than next year. Otherwise, they are doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past.
