4 players Memphis Grizzlies missed out on in 2017 draft
The Memphis Grizzlies landed two quality players in the 2017 draft class. However, they missed out on their first-round pick. Who could’ve they picked in the first round?
The 2017 draft class looks absolutely awesome thus far. The Memphis Grizzlies’ second-round pick, Dillon Brooks, was the only second-rounder from this draft class in the “Rising Stars” challenge. In addition, he’s been the one of the lone bright spots in this lost season, as he’s become a regular starter for this Grizzlies teams.
Around the league, these rookies have been something special. Lonzo Ball and Kyle Kuzma look like the next star-dudded duo in Los Angeles — well until LeBron and Paul George come this summer. Lauri Markkanen, the guy in the top-10 many labeled a bust, looks like he’s about to join this wave of “NBA Unicorns.” Donovan Mitchell, the steal from the draft, has carried Utah to playoff contention. Dennis Smith and De’Aaron Fox have been solid floor generals for rebuilding teams. Since Gordon Hayward went down on opening night, Jayson Tatum has stepped up and played a role in getting Boston in the top-four of the Eastern Conference. Josh Jackson is finally coming along as a two-way wing — he even scored a career-high 29 against Memphis. Jordan Bell has crashed the rotation on a juggernaut Warriors team.
This section doesn’t even include guys like John Collins and Jarrett Allen, as they’ve played prominent roles on their teams.
The Memphis Grizzlies nabbed Brooks and Ivan Rabb in the second round, and they can be major players in the league. However, they missed out on the first-round in an awesome draft, because of a salary-dump trade for Jon Leuer.
What could’ve been? Who could they have selected with 20th pick in the 2017 draft?
