Memphis Grizzlies: March Twitter mailbag

Phenomenal question. He pointed out the “trends” of the past 40 games when he fired Fizdale, reiterating that the team lost 26 of his last 40 contests. After the firing though, they’ve only won 12 of their past 53 games. Maybe these “trends” will catch up with him. However, he probably won’t get the can until the ownership situation is resolved.

That seems like a good question when judging his performance with legitimately run NBA teams. That is not the case in Memphis currently. The team is without a permanent head coach, and ownership of the entire franchise is up in the air with the Kaplan/Strauss buyout offer (reportedly for one billion dollars) on the table. Pera also is contesting a government investigation and a class action lawsuit on his company Ubiquity Networks.
Wallace has always been a company man who does what he is told, and things could be a lot worse than Wallace in the top position. He isn’t a visionary or even a strong leader, but he is capable enough to hold things together in these times of turmoil. However, if he remains in his position once the dust clears from the ownership battle, then I believe fans would be correct in expressing their displeasure.

You would think that a guy who was a Danny Ainge protege, would not be this bad. The question really is though, how much power does Chris Wallace really have? Is Chris Wallace the one pulling the strings on final decisions? We must remember that ownership selected Thabeet; Chris Wallace just gets the credit, good or bad, because of his title. My first inclination is that if he has not already been fired, then maybe he is not the guy making the decisions after all. If he is the guy, then I have no explanation for why he is still employed.

I have already said everything that I need to say about Chris Wallace. If you don’t want to click the link, I’ll put it bluntly: Chris Wallace has no business still being the general manager, but he won’t be going anywhere until the ownership situation is resolved.
Sometimes life just sucks that way.
