Memphis Grizzlies 2018 Draft Big Board 3.0
No. 9: Collin Sexton
Collin Sexton is surely a likable prospect — and one guy you don’t want your team to face in a seven-game playoff series. His “Young Bull” mantra is awesome; it highlights his hyperactive aggression and tenacity on the basketball court.
Such tenacity reminds you of guys like John Wall and Russell Westbrook.
How good can he be in the NBA though? His aggression leads to high-scoring outings, as you saw in the NCAA tournament (averaging 21.0 points in two games). However, it also leads to crazy, out-of-control takes to the paint and high turnover numbers.
He isn’t near the facilitator guys like Gilgeous-Alexander and Trae Young are, as he averaged 3.6 assists per game and only had five games where he recorded six or more dimes. Not to mention, he nearly has a 1:1 assist-to-turnover ratio, as he turns the ball over 2.8 times per game.
Can he improve his playmaking abilities at the next level? Or will he just be known as a wild scorer? Improvement in the playmaking department will determine whether or not he can transform into a star at the next level.
