Memphis Grizzlies 2018 Draft Big Board 3.0
No. 5: Michael Porter Jr.
Michael Porter Jr. made a mistake returning this season. It only hurt his draft stock and the team’s overall success.
Yes, having him on the court is a big morale boost, as he was certainly the best player on the Missouri team. However, did the team risk success trying to get him out of his rust? In addition, what did Porter benefit from playing?

His shot was certainly rusty, as he only made 31 percent of his field goal attempts. He also only made three of his 10 3-point attempts. It was certainly obvious he didn’t have his legs under him.
However, his upside and his fit with the Memphis Grizzlies warrant a top-five spot here. Before his injury, he was seen as the top prospect in this year’s draft class. His size and scoring ability reminds people of players like Kevin Durant and Tracy McGrady. In addition, Porter fits in with the Grizzlies. They desperately need help on the wings, as they really only have Wayne Selden and Dillon Brooks. Even if he only hits 75 percent of his ceiling, they’re still getting a guy that could score 18-20 points a game.
There are big questions for Porter as he enters the draft. Can he erase doubts about his back injury? Can he do more on the court besides score?
