Memphis Grizzlies guard Andrew Harrison had a career year, but will he be in Beale Street Blue next season?

Andrew Harrison was a popular pick to be cut going into this season. He has had some big moments before but for the most part, the fans did not like how he had been playing.

Harrison had a solid season this year, however. He started some games and when he didn’t he was a solid backup. With Conley out for the year, it was hard to read what exactly his role was and what it could be going forward.

Andrew Harrison Improving His Game

Due to the injuries, Harrison started in 46 Of the 56 games he played in. He improved his game a lot this season. His shooting percentage shot went up a lot.

His field goal percentage jumped up to 42.2% after being just 32.5% a year ago. He also bumped up his  three-pointpercentage to 33.1% after shooting it at 27.6% last year. His free throw also improved, bumping it from 76.1% to 78%.

He didn’t play a whole lot at the end of the year due to some injuries and Kobi Simmons did play well. That could lead to some uncertainty as to who will be the backup point guard.

He had a career-high 28 points in a February 14th game at home vs Oklahoma City. He shot five for five from three-point range that night.

Will He Be On The Team Next Season?

Andrew Harrison did improve this past season, but it’s still not for sure that he will be back in Memphis next season. If he is, he may not be the primary backup point guard.

That’s not taking anything away from him, but Kobi Simmons impressed late in the season so who knows what will happen.

That said I think Harrison will be the primary backup point guard in Memphis next season. He has some experience that Simmons doesn’t. Harrison played crunch time minutes in the playoffs last season and he was able to make some big plays.

The Grizzlies will likely role with him as the primary backup point guard, though Evans would likely run the second unit if he returns. Simmons may benefit from more time in the G league, his time will come.

For now, Andrew Harrison is the backup point guard for the Grizzlies, and it seems like it will stay that way next season. If he can perform well next season he could be looking to earning himself a nice extension in the future.
