Memphis Grizzlies 2017/18 Player Review: Mike Conley
By Chris Kern
Mike Conley’s flashes at the beginning of the 2017/2018 season give fans hope for a brighter year next season.
Mike Conley only played in a few games this new season. The team was very good in the time he was playing. They beat some really good teams such as the Golden State Warriors and the Houston Rockets (twice).
That gives everyone hope that this team can be competitive with him healthy. This team is gonna get a young star in the draft hopefully and then next year if all goes right, they’ll be battling for a playoff spot.
Grizzlies Hot Start
Mike Conley played in twelve of the first thirteen games but that was all he played in. That’s not to say he didn’t make an impact though. The Grizzlies got off to a hot 5-1 start to the season. They did go on to lose a few games with him but that was after he already seemed to be hurting.
He averaged 17.1 points per game and he did see his percentages slip a decent amount. He did just play in twelve games though so it isn’t a big deal. He had a couple bad games and didn’t have the chance to bring those up.
His best game of the season was in a home opening win against the Pelicans. He put up 27 points, five boards, three assists and two steals. He shot nine for fifteen from the field and four for nine from three.
Can Conley Lead Them To The Playoffs Next Year?
The Grizzlies expected to be in the playoffs this season. They had the guys to make a run there if they were healthy. This team has the potential to make it their next season.
If Mike Conley and Marc Gasol can stay healthy this team can do it. Conley is the key though, this team badly needs their franchise point guard to even be competitive.
Mike Conley played like a legit superstar in 2016-17. If he can get healthy and play like that next season then who knows how good this team can be.
