“48 Hours” investigates the case behind the murder of former Memphis Grizzlies fan favorite Lorenzen Wright.

In recent months, the investigation into the death of former Memphis Grizzlies fan favorite Lorenzen Wright has gained great speed.

For years, there have been no clues. No leads. No further details.

Wright’s murder has been one of the most mysterious cases in the nation, yet it becomes even crazier since he was a celebrity — a professional basketball player. Typically NBA players cannot get away from media, day or night, but there had been no real indication as to who placed harm on Lorenzen Wright.

CBS News and their latest “48 Hours” segment focuses on the ex-Grizzlies center. The news hub claims “new evidence may have solved the mysterious death of Lorenzen Wright.” Watch their video (directly below) for the “48 Hours” preview.

Wright was born in Memphis, Tennessee in 1975. He remained local in his collegiate days, attending the University of Memphis for two years prior to making the decision to turn professional. Lorenzen was drafted seventh overall by the Los Angeles Clippers in the 1996 NBA Draft.

Lorenzen Wright would play 13 seasons in the NBA — five of those being spent as a hometown favorite suiting up for the Memphis Grizzlies. He was a lifelong Memphian to say the least.

In those 13 professional seasons, including 778 games played (447 starts), Wright posted career averages of 8.0 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. His best years came with the Memphis Grizzlies.

You can catch the CBS special on Saturday, May 12th, 2018 at 9:00 PM Central Time. This edition of “48 Hours” is titled “Lorenzen Wright: No Defense.”

Though we only have the great memories that Lorenzen Wright provided to the city of Memphis during his time on this earth, answers are still needed. It seems as if those answers may be drawing near.

The legacy of Lorenzen lives on at Grizzlies games today. Occasionally, No. 42 Grizz jerseys are spotted in the stands of FedEx Forum. That aspect will likely never change as long as the Grindhouse exists.
