Seven straight playoff appearances, building a core four of star players and keeping it together for all seven of those years. All of those accomplishments, and you’re telling me Chris Wallace’s job is on the line?
With the NBA draft lottery coming up, the Memphis Grizzlies have the second highest odds of grabbing the number one overall pick. Do the fans feel safe with Wallace making the pick? Of course not, because that is one of many things he has failed at as an NBA General Manager.
Ask him about his history in the NBA draft, and before you can even finish your question, “Boston Celtics, and Paul Pierce,” come flying out of his mouth. He likes to stop reporters from asking the tough questions by interrupting them, followed by a long answer which doesn’t really answer anything.
Decisions that have left a fan base scratching its head more times then not. He keeps people in the past, and will tell you until he is blue in the face that he meant to bring that core four together. Luck, and smooth talking, something former Grizzlies Head Coach David Fizdale and Wallace had in common, maybe that is why it ended so quickly.
I always hear the funny responses from journalist that big time athletes in the NBA will not come to Memphis because they are a small market team. I can understand that, but add in an a unqualified General Manager, and then there is no chance.
It is just a handful of guys that work in the front office that I wonder, “how have they survived this?” John Hollinger I do not mind as much as I do Joe Abadi Who is Abadi, and where is his basketball background? Exactly, he does not have any before Memphis. Abadi is Grizzlies owner Robert Pera’s best friend. A C-Level Finance Independent Consultant turned director of the Grizzlies front office operations.
So, if the Wallace and the front office do not hit on this draft pick I can not promise that Wallace will be out of the door, because who knows who is in charge. All we know is that Wallace has done more then enough to show his way out, but he is good with the press, and can just go along with things behind closed doors.
I hope that the Grizzlies hit on this pick, and everything is okay, but I think that the day Wallace leaves, it might be too late to win with the current core of Mike Conley and Marc Gasol.
