Former Oklahoma stand out Trae Young had his pro day yesterday in front of 100 plus NBA executives and scouts. I’m sure several from Memphis, but Memphis could break the draft with one move.

On Wednesday, Trae Young participated in Octagon Sports Pro Day at the Sports Academy in front of scouts from around the NBA. One of the teams that sent scouts and executives, your Memphis Grizzlies. Young seemed to impress many NBA executives with his drills in the video below.

Less then 24 hours later news broke that Memphis, among other lottery picks sent scouts and executives to interview Young’s coaching staff at the University of Oklahoma.

While all of this sounds crazy, it can get even crazier. The New York Knicks, and Young have mutual interest, and are even going to hold a private tryout here in a week.

Why is this crazy?

Imagine General Manager Chris Wallace when Young is available at number four, and former Grizzlies Head Coach David Fizdale wants him in New York? I have one word for everyone reading this: revenge. Wallace takes Young, and the Knicks, yet again have a broken draft process. Not only that, but the Grizzlies would have one of the best young gems the league hasn’t seen in years.

What about trading the pick back?

It is possible, but why would Memphis help a coach that jumped ship, and ran, and a franchise that Wallace has never dealt with before? The Knicks are the hottest option in that five to ten range, and it seems that they will do anything to get Trae.

This was tweeted the same day and two hours after it was rumored teams were approaching his coaching staff at Oklahoma.

It is interesting without a doubt, and definitely something to keep our eyes on as Memphis approaches the biggest draft in franchise history.
