NBA Draft: Interpreting Sacramento Kings’ Thoughts with No. 2 Pick
Question: Who do you think Sacramento will take at No. 2 overall?
Tyler Watts: The Kings have six players in play right now. Doncic, Ayton, Jackson Jr., Bagley III, Michael Porter Jr., and Mohamed Bamba are all in contention for the pick. Unlike most drafts, the top of this class seems wide open. There are a plethora of players with star potential.
With that being said, the Kings are leaning towards selecting Luka Doncic. Some experts want to break the norm and make wild predictions, but the Sacramento Front Office has been scouting the Slovenian prodigy all season long. His mix of size, length, talent, and basketball intelligence makes Doncic stand out. The Kings want to have a more modern offense, and Doncic is a critical piece in creating that option.
It is important to remember, Doncic has four years of professional basketball experience already. He was playing against grown men at age 15. The Kings see his star potential. The fact that he is ready to come over and play a significant role from Day One is what puts the icing on the cake, though.
Plenty of teams are fantasizing that Luka Doncic slips to them, but they will have to trade up to make that dream a reality.
