NBA Draft: Best No. 4 Overall Picks of the 2000s
By AJ Salah
What can the Memphis Grizzlies hope for with their No. 4 pick in the NBA Draft? Beale Street Bears looks back at some of the better recent results.
2018’s NBA Draft Lottery was an initial disappointment for the Memphis Grizzlies and their fans. Heading into the night with the second-best odds at the top overall pick, Memphis stumbled to fourth in the selection order after a painful season of tanking. While the slide down the board does hurt, it is not a critical blow for Memphis.
First off, there is quite a bit of movement among this year’s deep run of top prospects. Behind No. 1 lock DeAndre Ayton, there is virtually no consensus on draft order. The No. 4 pick is not vastly different from No. 2; Memphis could still land their original target with a little luck.
There is a large historical body of evidence supporting the four-spot’s value. Despite the occasional Wesley Johnson or Cody Zeller, there has also been plenty of superstars and valuable role players behind Door No. 4 in recent years.
