NBA Draft: Who are the Memphis Grizzlies Targeting at 32?
By Chris Kern
Moritz Wagner
Wagner was a complete stud during the NCAA Tournament this past season. The big man from Germany did not have much of an impact during his freshman season, but he broke out over the past two seasons. He barely saw the floor during his freshman season, but then he put in a lot of hard work and became a game-changer for the Wolverines.
Wagner shot just under 40% from deep the past two seasons at Michigan, which will be a big part of his game going forward. He has also become a lot stronger which has led to him being a much better rebounder. He still needs to get stronger to be a good rebounder at the next level.
Many people rave about his work ethic. He plays hard all the time, which made a big impact on the Michigan team. He played amazing during the tournament and led his team, almost single-handedly it seemed, to the national title game. His dominant play led to him being selected to the All-Tournament team.
Wagner’s defense is a little bit worrisome at times, though. His struggles to defend inside can be exploited at times. He plays hard enough that sometimes this is not noticed. A guy who plays as hard as him probably will not have major defensive concerns, but it is something to keep an eye on as we get to see him in action for the first time in the NBA.
Wagner has versatility on offense that a lot of guys do not have. His ability to stretch the floor while also being able to put the ball down and drive to the bucket is legit.

His skill set on offense to go along with his motor should make him successful at the next level. That may be as a rotation player or maybe even as a starter one day. If he keeps working hard and can be more consistent, then he will make it in this league.
