The Memphis Grizzlies could see pretty much anything happen with their #4 overall pick. But what can they expect in the second round of Thursday’s NBA Draft?

The Memphis Grizzlies slid in the 2018 NBA Draft Lottery; their 2nd-best odds at the No. 1 pick left them stymied at No. 1 overall. While disappointing, the fall’s net result may be nullified by a highly-nebulous draft order, or even a possible trade.

Buried further in the Draft, Memphis has a pick that was not left to chance. They will select second overall in the second round; No. 32 overall. While the Draft is certainly more of a crapshoot at that point, there is still potential to unearth a late gem.

Beale Street Bears recently chronicled a history of No. 4 picks, now we shift our attention to Memphis’ “other” pick. What can the Grizzlies reasonably expect from the second round? Let’s check out some recent NBA Drafts; not just the 32nd pick, but potentially valuable alternatives:

Ivica Zubac, 2016
The Lakers nabbed Zubac out of Bosnia & Herzegovina 32nd overall in 2016. Glued to the bench early in the season, he became a late fantasy sleeper hit with strong per-36 numbers.

Unfortunately for Zubac’s career arc, the Lakers took on Brook Lopez’s contract in dumping team morale champion D’Angelo Russell on the Nets. His reps diminished while the $22 million man ate his minutes.

Impressive across a limited sample, Zubac still remains in a capped role on a crappy team. Who knows how the Lakers’ roster could shake up over the summer, but his struggle for playing time could continue.

Best Snubs: Malcolm Brogdon (36), Patrick McCaw (38)
