The Memphis Grizzlies opened up their Summer League action in Utah against Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks on Monday evening with a win.

The Memphis Grizzlies could not have played a more well-rounded game when you take into acount the amount of days together and laying a foundation. Jevon Carter, who was known for locking down on Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young in college, did it once again. Young shot a combined 4/20 from the field and 1/11 from the three-point line.

Then, Memphis’ fourth overall pick, Jaren Jackson Jr., started feeling it from behind the three-point stripe. A second quarter buzzer-beater (peep the shimmy at the end) nearly blew the roof off.

Jackson Jr. had four three-point makes in the first half and continued to shoot the lights out in the second half, getting four more three-pointers and causing us to go crazy at Beale Street Bears:

He has a great GIF game off the court, too!

Jackson Jr. has a fitting nickname of “Triple-J,” because he is a triple-threat on the floor. He beats opponents up on defense and can score from inside or outside the arc.

The biggest scoring outburst of the night came from Memphis Grizzlies guard Kobi Simmons, who played some of his best ball. Simmons dropped 17 first-half points on 7/10 shots and was 2/3 from three-point range. He finished the game with 21 points on 8/13 shooting, and 2/3 from three. Simmons has improved tremendously since his rookie year.

Next: Grizzlies serious about re-signing Tyreke Evans?

We already knew that Simmons was good at the game, but now we are seeing him put those talents in the right spots throughout a game. He is choosing his spots, and picking them wisely.

Rounding out the recap, Jevon Carter bounced back after a shaky start offensively. We already know what Carter will give on the defensive end, but his offense was something to watch tonight. After he ran the nerves out after one quarter, you could see Carter find a flow with his teammates in that second quarter.

The Memphis Grizzlies will look to stay on the winning side tomorrow night against the Utah Jazz. The tip is set for 8:00 PM CT and will be televised on NBA TV.
