Memphis Grizzlies Vs. San Antonio Spurs: Game Preview
The Memphis Grizzlies will look to finish their Utah Summer League run in winning fashion. Memphis concludes this week in Utah tonight against the San Antonio Spurs.
The Memphis Grizzlies, with a win tonight against San Antonio can finish their Utah Summer League run undefeated. Memphis has felt like such a bully in their two games so far. The Hawks in game one, where Memphis’ guard Jevon Carter locked up Hawks guard Trae Young.
Memphis lead by double figures that entire game. In game two against the Utah Jazz, Memphis went to work again, but this time teasing the Jazz at the end. Memphis lead by as much as 25 points, only to let the Jazz get back into the game. Then, giving the lead up late in the fourth quarter but then Wayne Selden pushed the Grizzlies past the Jazz.
It has been an oddly fun ride for Memphis, and it is always good for your team to be so dominate. Memphis has shown that, and this team also has the most NBA experience I think in this Summer League.
Insight into the Spurs:
For San Antonio, their run has been way different. Getting blown out in game one by the Jazz, and then dominating the Hawks. It is hard to gauge what the Spurs are doing or if they are consistent, but with teams this young, it is hard to gauge a lot.
The Spurs first round draft pick Lonnie Walker IV, only scored seen points in his 24 minutes of playing time this Summer League. Walker sat out in the Spurs win over the Hawks on Tuesday night.
A guy Memphis will have to watch is Derrick White. White, has lead San Antonio in both of their games in scoring and shot over 42 percent in both games. White is a problem, but if Memphis can put Selden on White, that could possibly slow him down.
Keys for Memphis:
For Memphis, this team just has to worry about being consistent, and playing all four quarters. Grizzlies guard Kobi SImmons refereed to that after Tuesday nights victory in Utah against the Jazz. A win, in which Memphis almost choked a 25 point lead.
Grizzlies big man Deyonta Davis will have to build off of Tuesday nights game. Davis scored 17 points, and placed himself well throughout the game. I no longer think Davis is playing for Memphis, but is playing for his NBA life.
For the Grizzlies back court of Selden, Simmons, and Carter, it come down to managing the game better. Too many times on Tuesday the pace was getting pushed for no reason. Up by 25 points, always stay on the gas petal, but be smart about doing so. They handled the game well in the last four minutes of the fourth Tuesday night.
T.V. Information:
