The Memphis Grizzlies entered Monday night as underdogs, and with the absence of Jaren Jackson Jr. did not help things out. Memphis fell to Portland Monday in Vegas.

First Quarter:

The Memphis Grizzlies started the game off well for a team without their best big man in Jaren Jackson Jr. Memphis for the most part entered this game as underdogs, and having the absence of Jackson did not help. That did not stop them to start the first quarter.

Deyonta Davis started the Grizzlies scoring off, scoring adding four of the Grizzlies first six of the game. Memphis shot 44 percent from the field in the first five minutes, and passed the ball very well. On top of passing the ball, Memphis did not settle for outside shots, and Kobi Simmons played the drive game very well.

Simmons had a vicious (for his size) put back slam!

Memphis ended the first quarter leading the Traill Blazers 24-19 after one. The Grizzlies lead by as much as five in that first quarter, and while Portland shot a better percentage from the field, Memphis had more defensive stops leading to more shot attempts, and had five more free throws.

Second Quarter:

Memphis started off the second quarter a little scary as Grizzlies forward D.J. Stephens was injured and had to be helped off the floor. Memphis’ offense finally evened out, and the Grizzlies started to trail throughout most of the second quarter.

Portland’s offense came a live in the second quarter, and Memphis just seemed to maintain the Trail Blazers run.  Memphis had two player in double figures in Kobi Simmons (10 points), and Brandon Goodwin (11 points).

Third Quarter:

The Memphis Grizzlies started the second half by taking over the lead mid way through the third quarter. The third quarter was a back a fourth war for the lead. Guys like Christian Watford, Simmons, Crawford, and Goodwin helped carry Memphis when the mud started to get deep on the offensive end.

Pushing pace, making the extra pass, and getting those extra defensive stops. Continuing to find a way when the odds would stack up, Simmons and Goodwin kept Memphis in the game. Crawford finished the third quarter with a corner buzzer beating three pointer to bring the Grizzlies within three points of the Portland lead.

Fourth Quarter:

Memphis started the fourth quarter deep in the mud, and eventually fell as far as 11 down from the Trail Blazers. Memphis continued to show fight throughout the fourth quarter, and Goodwin continued to show fight! Memphis cut the lead to as close as three in the final 20 seconds, and former Grizzly Wade Baldwin showed that he still hasn’t matured.

Memphis fell about two minutes short and will be leaving Vegas one round short of their goal at a Summer League Title.
