The Memphis Grizzlies fell short of a title in Summer League, watching the youth movement made it fun. A guy like guard Brandon Goodwin possibly played himself into a full-time job.

Brandon Goodwin had a Summer League that many guys that do not get drafted dream about. The opportunity to play for an NBA franchise, and to have coaches that understand how the NBA works. Seeing his potential, and putting him places to succeed.

Goodwin showed that he was all heart in his first NBA Summer League, and that he play with any team on any roster, question is, where? Where will Goodwin end up?

Having the talents to make it on any roster is great to have, and great to show on a big stage like the Summer League. Goodwin played a very good floor game in both Utah and then in Las Vegas. Finishing Memphis Grizzlies Summer League third on team in scoring, Goodwin showed out until the final buzzer against Portland where Memphis ended their tournament run.

Posting this after a heart breaking loss against Portland.

And then posting this 15 minutes after the previous tweet.

Goodwin’s heart and love for the game is rare to find at his age. Coming out of Florida Gulf Coast University, nothing has been easy for Goodwin. Lack of T.V. time, and being told that he was the best player on that team only to go undrafted makes a tough story.

Goodwin is the reason I pay so much attention to Summer League, because the NBA is such a hit and miss league. No one bet on Goodwin on draft night, but about a week removed from Summer League, and all my chips are on the table for that guy.

Does Goodwin get a Two-Way?

Without a doubt. If any NBA scout, that is good at their job was paying attention to Summer League, they found out that Brandon Goodwin could play at the NBA level. Does he get a two-way to stay in Memphis? That will be the question, and that will most likely be based on what the franchise decides to do with Kobi Simmons two-way deal.

I doubt they want two guards occupying both of their two-way contract slots, but for now I think Simmons is ahead of Goodwin. There is no doubting that Goodwin is worth every penny of a two-way contract.

If not with Memphis, I’m sure that he will find a great home, and will soon be playing NBA minutes for another club.
