The Memphis Grizzlies have agreed to a deal with free agent point guard Shelvin Mack. He is a solid player who will contribute, but this deal indicates so much more for the Grizzlies.

This contract between Shelvin Mack and the Memphis Grizzlies, initially reported by ESPN‘s Adrian Wojnarowski, is expected to be a one-year minimum deal. They seemed to have their 15-man roster set after shipping Deyonta Davis and Ben McLemore in exchange for Garrett Temple. Now there are many questions to be answered.

What Does This Mean For Memphis?

The Memphis Grizzlies had too many guards on the roster before this deal, so they really have some decisions to make. Mike Conley, Andrew Harrison, Jevon Carter, and now Shelvin Mack are all point guards. That’s with us counting Kobi Simmons as a shooting guard.

They have some options, though. Making another trade is probably the route the Grizzlies go down. They still must decide what player or players they want to include.

Andrew Harrison has to be the favorite to be shopped. Grizzlies fans have very mixed feelings about him. He has played well at times, but he is very inconsistent as well.

The Memphis Grizzlies like their young guards in Jevon Carter and Kobi Simmons. That could lead to them moving Harrison in a deal. They could look to package Harrison with someone like Jarell Martin or Wayne Selden as they look to acquire a veteran backup center.

Backup center is not a huge need as Jaren Jackson Jr is more than capable of playing there. This team has way more guards than bigs, though. Packaging a couple guards in a deal for a veteran big could make a lot of sense to thin out the backcourt.

Memphis could also attempt to ship a couple guys for future Draft picks and then look to sign an additional center. A guy like Alex Len could be potential targets if they go that particular route.
