The Memphis Grizzlies have a lot of players pushing to earn that starting nod at shooting guard. The spot is wide open between a handful of players. In this article, I’ll break down a few of the factors that will determine who gets the nod. I will also look at each of the guys who could be the starter.

What Will Kyle Anderson’s Role Be?

Kyle Anderson should be the starting Small Forward but how much they play him at power forward could have an impact on the other wing players. The team may need one of these shooting guard candidates to play at the three more than anticipated.

This likely won’t affect who gets the starting spot but it will affect how many minutes the guys off the bench get. Someone like Wayne Selden or Dillon Brooks could spend time at the three if Anderson is playing the four.

All of the candidates are capable players it just depends on who fits in the best with the rest of the starters. With Kyle Anderson playing the three it could lead to the Grizzlies starting a better shooter at the two. But with the Grizzlies bigs being able to stretch the floor that might not be much of a factor.

Would The Grizzlies Actually Keep Four Point Guards?

The Memphis Grizzlies currently have four point guards on the roster. All four of whom are guys you’d expect to play at least a little bit.

The Grizzlies need to decide if they want to keep all four of them on the team. If they keep all four of them then it’s possible that they don’t keep all of the shooting guards then.

They have four point guards and four shooting guards on this team. That’s including Dillon Brooks as a shooting guard but it’s also without Kobi Simmons. Simmons is expected to be on a two-way contract again this year and he’s expected to be more of a shooting guard this year, rather than a point guard.

Will Kobi Simmons Be On A Two-Way Contract?

Kobi Simmons is expected to be on a two-way contract. He was so impressive during the Summer League that they might want him to actually be on the roster.

Simmons being on the roster changes things a lot. He could possibly take one of the shooting guards listed belows spot or a guy like Andrew Harrison.

Simmons is a guy who could work his way onto the real roster throughout the season though. He is a skilled offensive guard who will become a solid player for the Grizzlies. He makes an impact on both ends of the floor. Keep an eye on him as a guy who could earn more and more minutes, as the season goes along.

Starting Shooting Guard Candidates

These are the four players who could be the starting shooting guard next season. These guys are all are being considered for various reasons. They all will play some role on this team even if they don’t start. They’re all skilled basketball players who will help the Grizzlies next season.
