Jarell Martin’s time with the Memphis Grizzlies has come to a close, but he created some long-lasting highlights in his three seasons.
Originally the Memphis Grizzlies’ first round selection of the 2015 NBA Draft, Jarell Martin‘s tenure lasted three seasons. Though he did not become a star in the 901, he became a contributor. The Grizzlies wish they could say this about a slew of other first round picks in team history.
Injuries hampered Martin at the beginning of his professional career. These forced him to miss NBA Summer League action as a rookie. Grizz Nation did not get to see Jarell in action until the middle of December in the 2015-16 season. From there, he really did not play meaningful minutes in a regular season game until the final full month of his inaugural NBA season.

Basically, it quickly looked like another totally blown Draft pick — a first rounder, no less. The 2016-17 season was not much of a step up for Martin. He played in almost double the amount of NBA games, but was clearly not ready for the NBA limelight. Jarell became a fixture with the Iowa Energy — the Grizzlies’ developmental league affiliate at the time.
Regardless of the spot minutes he received, Jarell Martin has been about the athleticism and hustle. That is a key as to why the Memphis Grizzlies drafted him with the 25th overall pick. Appearing in a Grizzly uniform in just 142 games within his first three professional seasons, Jarell provided a handful of highlight reel plays that will forever have Grizzlies fans remembering his name.
Beale Street Bears has narrowed down Jarell Martin’s top plays of his Grizz career to four key sequences. Surprisingly, the biggest of them all derived from hard work not seen in front of a large home crowd.
