Bonzi Wells will always be known for his time in Portland, but his time  spent with the Memphis Grizzlies was impressive as well.

Bonzi Wells was a member of the Memphis Grizzlies only for portions of two seasons, which is why he is not higher on Beale Street Bears‘ top-25 list of all-time Grizzlies. He was a really good all-around player, which is why Bonzi comes in at No. 15 in our rankings. Now we explain this selection below.

Wells’ Time in Memphis

Bonzi Wells was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies from the Portland Trail Blazers’ grasp in early December of 2003. He was traded for Wesley Person and a conditional 2004 first-round pick.

Though he was in Memphis for just two seasons, he had a big impact on the Grizzlies. Bonzi started in 36 of the 128 games he played while donning a Grizzly uniform.

Wells averaged 11.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. He shot 43.9% from the field, 34.5% from three-point range, and held a 75% accuracy from the free-throw line while with the Memphis Grizzlies.

Those numbers are not out of this world, but having his contributions off the bench were a key part of those teams earning trips to the NBA Playoffs.

Bonzi Wells averaged 10.2 points and 2.7 rebounds per game over his six playoff games with the Grizzlies. His best season in the league was the 2001-02 season. Here he averaged 17 points and six rebounds per game.

What is Bonzi Wells Doing Now?

Bonzi Wells has been playing in the new BIG3 league formed by Ice Cube. He is a co-captain for a team by the name Tri-State. The other team captain is former NBA All-Star Jermaine O’Neal. Wells averaged just 2.4 points over 5.6 minutes per game in the five BIG3 games he played in 2018.

Wells had a much better season in 2017, which marked the launch of BIG3. He was tied for fifth in the league with 50 rebounds and led all players with seven steals. He was one of nine players that hit two game-winning shots while also being one of nine players to start every game.
