The second season of the BIG3 league is coming to a close. A handful of former Memphis Grizzlies were able to extend their basketball careers.

Though unconventional regulation basketball, the BIG3 league has found immediate success upon their launch in 2017. Nearing completion of Season Two, the league continues to build momentum and popularity.

With Ice Cube leading the way, BIG3’s roots are within entertainment. It provides just that — entertainment. It is an exciting brand of basketball and it gets off the path of your typical five-on-five, go-through-the-motions full-length basketball game. The three-on-three aspect is new to the professional level. Thus far, basketball fans in America have loved it.

More from Beale Street Bears

Not only does the playing format draw attention from basketball faithfuls, but it is the players involved in the league. You have all-time legends such as Clyde Drexler, Julius Erving, Rick Barry, and Gary Payton that represent teams on the sidelines. You have players that recently graced NBA rosters this decade, including Amar’e Stoudemire, Nate Robinson, and Glen Davis. On top of it all, some of our favorite ballers from the ’90s comprise the BIG3 rosters. It is a perfect blend.

For fans of the Memphis Grizzlies, there is plenty of reason to catch BIG3 action in person (if your local city made the list of 10 destinations in Season Two) or on television via Fox Sports. If you have not bought into their brand of hoops just yet, there will be a perfect opportunity to do so in 2019 when Season Three arrives.

Perhaps the biggest reason for Grizz fans to tune in to BIG3 is to reconnect with former members of the Vancouver and Memphis Grizzlies rosters. This summer, a total of eight former Grizzlies participated in BIG3 play. This is a great way to continue to watch past fan favorites as they extend their professional basketball careers in a nontraditional way.
