Memphis Grizzlies In-Arena Success Goes Beyond the Fans
In an interview with DIME Magazine in 2017, Memphis Grizzlies Guard Mike Conley referenced a specific chant that juiced the team up to ‘finish’ their opponents.
The Memphis Grizzlies are known for their crazy in game events. There is a whole list that makes attending Grizzlies games fun, and the in-arena team deserves a lot of credit for that. The Grizzlies in house team is just different than a lot of NBA arenas, and while the team is in a small market, the Grizzlies in house team doesn’t use that as an excuse.
The Grizzlies in-arena team is just a lot more creative than most NBA franchises across the league, and I may be bias, but it seems to be true. Not only does management stick to the city roots, but the in-arena team does it even better.
Scheduling a “Wrestling” night for Grizzlies fans towards the middle of the season, because of the cities history with wrestling, and how it still sticks with the city today. Incorporating Grizzlies “Grannies and Grandpa’s” into numerous games throughout the season.
Or last season when The Grizzlies mascot ‘Grizz’ was on track throughout the first part of the season to get married to his long lost love, only to get stood up at the alter by ‘Natche the Grizz.”

Listing what the Memphis Grizzlies in-arena team does so well, is similar to doing a ‘thank you’ speech after getting an award… Something or someone is always left out during that speech because there are so many people and things that it gets lost in the moment.
Their impact on the fans even went beyond that when Conley was asked about what would get them through that game six. Conley referenced a specific chant that the fans chant when the team is ready to ‘finish them.’ That specific thought was on Conley’s mind heading into game 6 in the 2017 Playoffs.
Their team just does so much throughout a game, and does it consistently different that it is almost unfair to other NBA teams that give a random fan a ball and say “make this shot for five thousand dollars..” At first it is entertaining, but after the third or fourth, you’re not excited anymore, and not paying attention.
In a few weeks I will interview the masterminds behind the Memphis Grizzlies in-arena success, what goes into those ideas, and possibly some sneak peeks from the Grizzlies “Claw Crew.” Since the departure of Jason Potter, the team has an new structure, but the same goal of creating new things for the Grizzlies fans to have an excellent experience.
