Former Spurs swingman Kyle Anderson was the prize catch of the Memphis Grizzlies’ free agency haul. Which training camp adjustments will make him a good fit in the 901?
Kyle Anderson‘s NBA career thus far could best be described as solid. A four-year veteran of the vaunted San Antonio Spurs’ system, Anderson gradually carved a niche with efficient, effective play on both sides of the ball. He looks to continue that momentum with the Memphis Grizzlies.
Anderson is very much a minimalist player. He is slower than the Orlando Magic’s current rebuilding project, and does few things extraordinarily well. However, he is a good defender and crafty playmaker, who takes smart shots, and rarely fouls or turns the ball over. His length also allows him to play multiple positions, bolstering his value on a thin wing unit like that of the Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies paid Kyle Anderson handsomely this summer; 4 years at $37million for a guy with career stats of 4.9/3.6/1.7 (what market correction?). As such, they will need to squeeze more out of Anderson’s resources for this contract to pay off.
Even if he might be a tad overpaid at present, Kyle can still have a positive net impact for the Grizzlies. Here are three training camp goals for his first season in Memphis, Tennessee.
