Shelvin Mack started his career with the Washington Wizards after being selected with the 34th pick in the 2011 draft. He had a role in most games averaging 12.2 minutes in the 64 games he played in. That seemed to be a solid start to a young career.
The 2012-13 season was a bit rocky for him. He played for three different teams; Washington, Philadelphia, and Atlanta. Due to spending some time in the D-League, he played in just 31 games that season.
Mack played well in his time with the Maine Red Claws. He averaged 20.1 points and 7.7 assists per game. He played 40 minutes per game in the 23 games he played in. That stint was somewhat surprisingly his only stint in the D-League during his career.
He then would spend the next couple seasons as one of the backup guards to Jeff Teague on some really good Atlanta Hawk teams. He did have a better year in 2013-14 as the next year they opted to go with Dennis Schroder as the primary backup point guard.
During the 2015-16 season, he was sent to Utah to be their starting point guard after Dante Exum suffered a season-ending injury. Mack was given the chance to shine for a team trying to make a playoff push.
Mack averaged 12.7 points and 5.3 assists in the 28 games he played in for the Jazz. They fell just short of the playoffs, finishing 9th in the west, just one game behind the 8th seeded Houston Rockets.
He would stay in Utah the next season in a reserve role, playing in 55 games. He started in three playoff games that season.
Mack then would spend the 2017-18 season with the Orlando Magic. He played in 69 games while still playing nearly 20 minutes a game.
It’s not like he’s an old player by any means. He seems like he’s been in the league forever but he is still just 28 years old.
