Memphis Grizzlies: The Addition of Shelvin Mack Provides Stability
By Chris Kern
His Role This Season
Shelvin Mack’s role could be an interesting one next season. He didn’t come here to sit on the bench. He has been a key reserve the past few seasons for the teams he played on.
The Grizzlies decision to sign him clearly shows they don’t trust Harrison to be the backup on a team that wants to push towards the playoffs. They may trust rookie Jevon Carter to defend but he isn’t at the level where he can run a second unit’s offense.
Shelvin Mack will be the starting point guard to start the season. Hopefully, he is all season long, if he is still playing big minutes late in the season it could mean they’re still pushing for the postseason.
Mack has the ability to play alongside Conley as well. Not for long stretches but they can play together for a few minutes here and there no problem.
His numbers should be similar to the seven points and four assists he had last season in Orlando. He will be ready to step up whenever Mike Conley needs a day off.
