The Memphis Grizzlies dropped game number one of the preseason to the Houston Rockets Tuesday night, but one thing stood out – Chandler Parsons needs to start.
It was an unprecedented move by Memphis Grizzlies Head Coach J.B. Bickerstaff when the Grizzlies starting five was announced Tuesday evening. A lineup that featured Mike Conley, Garrett Temple, Chandler Parsons, JaMychal Green, and Marc Gasol.
While the bigger discussion was about Green and Jaren Jackson Jr., I think Memphis should keep Parsons in at the three spot over Kyle Anderson, because both guys are interchangeable.
While Memphis has struggled in the past with their depth at each position, this season Memphis is pretty much strong at each position. Memphis has guys in each spot that can bring a different element to the game if needed from point guard to center.

For the wing position, Anderson and Parsons can bring the Grizzlies a different punch for whatever the situation is. I’d argue that both are about the same in basketball IQ, but Parsons gives Memphis a better scoring punch.
Parsons has played more with Mike and Marc and know where they want their wing guys, and that is huge. With Parsons healthy, and shooting the ball well, why not keep Parsons in the starting five until he shows otherwise?
Both guys have the contracts to be starting wings, so money isn’t an issue anymore. Memphis has finally found their wings and it is time for this team to take off.
