Memphis Grizzlies: Five Important Aspects to Consider Versus Indiana
Life Without Tyreke Evans
It will be tough on the Memphis Grizzlies’ fan base when they face a familiar name in Tyreke Evans on Saturday. Just months ago, he was a fan favorite. Honestly, he will always be a Memphis legend due to time spent in the city as a member of the Grizzlies and the University of Memphis Tigers.
Perhaps the craziest headline of many wild scenarios the Grizzlies endured last season was the Front Office’s attempt to trade Evans prior to February’s NBA Trade Deadline. Oddly enough, it was Memphis’ last matchup with the Indiana Pacers where the Grizzlies thought a deal involving ‘Reke was guaranteed. About an hour or two prior to tip time, Evans caught a flight home.

The result? The Memphis Grizzlies suffered a 101-105 road loss after putting forth a strong effort in a derailed season. To make matters worse, Evans was not traded. Talk about a total blunder by the Front Office.
To this day, Tyreke Evans has somehow never badmouthed the Grizzlies’ Front Office. To be stuck in limbo multiple times last season, where he finally achieved a bill of good health en route to and astounding 19.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and 1.1 steals per game, most people in ‘Reke’s shoes would have been furious.
In the offseason where Evans hit NBA Free-Agency, not all was lost after all. He received a pay increase and landed with a rising team in the Indiana Pacers. It should be a lock for the postseason for Tyreke in his 10th season in the NBA. His success will be salt in the wound for the Grizzlies, who totally fumbled “Reke Havoc” project.
Assuming Tyreke Evans will play in Saturday’s meeting in Memphis, it will mark his preseason debut for the Pacers. He missed his new team’s first preseason game with a sprained left ankle. He is currently listed as “questionable.”
