Memphis Grizzlies: 5 Takeaways from Preseason Victory Over Atlanta
By Blake Monroe
Marc Gasol
On the court in the defeat of the Atlanta Hawks, it is clear that Marc Gasol‘s mind set from last season is still the same this season: to win. Winning is everything to No. 33.
Gasol lead the Memphis Grizzlies with 21 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and one block in 24 minutes. This winning effort highlighted by Marc was very dominant over the Hawks’ young frontcourt.
JaMychal Green
Probably the biggest play of the night came in the hands, or more like left the hands, of power forward JaMychal Green.
His dominant block against the Atlanta Hawks’ shot attempt sent the ball out to Beale Street along with the opponent’s chances of winning. In one block, Green silenced any doubt about tonight’s outcome. He proved that he will be a force to reckon with on the court this season as he fights to protect his starting role.

Overall
Toward the end of the 4th quarter, the Memphis Grizzlies did start to slack up offensively, but continued to play well-positioned defense.
The mixture of high-paced offensive and defensive play-making versus Atlanta demonstrated a different side of Memphis. In previous seasons, the Grizzlies have relied on the pick-‘n’-roll, but Friday showed a large number of assists coming from perimeter shooting.
A full team effort was effective against this Atlanta Hawks team, resulting in the first preseason win of 2018 for Memphis. Though it is still a preseason game and does not count toward the team’s record, these particular games are showing Grizz fans — and the league — the unison in which this mixture of players are working together.
Seeing healthy players by the likes of Chandler Parsons, Mike Conley, Jevon Carter, and others all playing team basketball is making this preseason schedule very exciting to watch.
