Space Cadet

The Memphis Grizzlies gave Parsons so much money largely because of his three-point prowess (well, that and their brief lapse of sanity). The good news — and perhaps the only good news — is that his long-range stroke appears alive and well.

More from Beale Street Bears

In 36 games last year, Parsons shot an elite 42% from distance on 3.4 attempts/game. Had he qualified, that mark would have flirted with the league’s top-ten for three-point accuracy.

With improved surroundings and (fingers crossed) better health, it is not unreasonable to assume Parsons could maintain that mark over larger samples. After all, he shot 41% on 4.1 attempts/game his last “healthy” season in Dallas.

At full capacity, Parsons is exactly the kind of spacing threat Memphis needs to unlock Mike Conley & Marc Gasol‘s full potential in the halfcourt. His looming threat would both keep defenses honest, and provide high-value shots the Grizzlies might struggle to find elsewhere.
